How to Feng Shui your bedroom for a better sleep

The simple changes that could change your life.

Let’s just start by saying that sleeping is EVERYTHING! Not only it is just really enjoyable, but sleeping well makes us much better human beings during the day. More energy, more happiness, more patience, more clarity…

We were not created equal when it comes to sleeping, some of us could fall asleep anywhere, and some just cannot stop tossing and turning.

But what if I told you Feng Shui could improve the quality of your sleep? That you can implement simple tips and rules that could make you sleep better tonight? Here is how to Feng shui your bedroom for a batter sleep.

Declutter for more (head)space

This is the first most important step to take. Feng Shui or not, a decluttered space will definitely bring peace and harmony.

Less visual distractions or mess will help you relax. But don’t think you can get away with it by chucking it all under the bed! It could represent subconscious blocks in your life.

It is believed that we should not have anything stored under the bed, so that the qi( life force energy) can flow all around you at night and heal you.

Place your bed for good energy

  • Place your headboard against a solid wall. With space around the other three sides of the bed.

  • Face the door when you are in bed, but avoid aligning them directly, which would put you in the “dead position” with your feet pointing out the door.

  • Avoid putting the bed against a window, or under beams or slopped ceiling.

  • Choose a solid headboard. It can be timber or upholstery, just avoid open bars and storage. Bonus point if it has soft corners.

Everything in pair

Wether you live by yourself, or with someone else, it is believed that you should have everything in pairs: bedside tables, pillows, lamps etc. In Feng Shui, pairs promote harmony and loving, and we all need a bit of both, don’t we?

Purify your space

  • Switch to non toxic cleaning products.

  • If you haven’t gotten furniture yet: try to choose natural furniture pieces, linens etc. Any natural material will make you feel grounded and connected.

  • Use essential oils or candles. Ylang-ylang for romance, jasmine to relax, eucalyptus if you are sick, you have plenty of options.

  • Try to avoid electronic devices, or any source of energy that can clash with your own.

If you are redecorating

These are design tips if you are redecorating your bedroom:

  • Choose the right colour: Soothing, neutral or faded colours are best for relaxation. Blue and green shades are perfect for energy and good health, while pink tones are for romance.

  • Choose your art carefully. Avoid art above your head, as well as ones picturing a water element, like a river for example. Place it at eye level or higher to lift your energy.

  • Choose soft/rounded corners and edges. Anything too sharp, especially at body level when asleep, it could be seen as a threat (Think bedside table corner by your face, or that sharp bed edge you’ve hit way to many time on your way back from the toilet in the middle of the night).
